As some people are winding down their seasons, I feel like mine is just getting started. I still have 4 trips left for the year! Below is the rest of my schedule for 2013. If anyone is planning on racing any of the following events please message me because I would love to make time to say hello!
Sept 22- Lifetime Fitness Series Tempe
This is the first year LTF is putting on the race in Tempe. My first year racing I did a local half in the same venue and met some pretty incredible people who I am still very close with. The swim is in beautiful Tempe Towne Lake (with a pretty strong sunrise, so bring mirrored goggles!!), the bike is through town, and the run is around the lake. If you love pizza, then I recommend La Grande Orange Grocery for some good eats.
Oct 6- Lifetime Fitness Series Dallas
The race in Dallas is not really in Dallas, it is in Rockwall, TX, which is about a 35 min drive from DFW, and 25 min drive from Lovefield. Once arriving to the Hilton on Lake Ray Hubbard you never really have to leave the hotel. The swim start and expo are 100m behind the hotel and the transition area is in the hotel parking lot. Last year it was raining, windy, and in the low 40s. However, 2 years ago it was in the 90s. So, if you are planning on doing this event, be prepared for any type of weather come race day. The swim is a beautiful lake swim very early (clear goggles!). The transition has a HUGE hill about 1m over the mount line. Last year I fell off my bike trying to get in my shoes..it was very embarrassing (yes pros do this too). I think this year I will put my shoes on before even getting on my bike to avoid this catastrophe. The bike course is rolling, windy, and technical within the last 10k. The run course is my favorite on the circuit. It is a 2-loop course with rolling terrain and a little cross-country segment with a downhill finish. For pre race dinner I recommend Zanata in downtown Rockwall, another brick oven pizza place that is pretty epic.
Oct 20- Lifetime Fitness Series Finale Oceanside
This will be my first time ever racing in southern California so I am not too sure of what to expect. I know the swim is in the ocean in a small cove, the ride is along the coast with rolling terrain, and the run is along the boardwalk. I am expecting the temperatures to be cool, with a wetsuit legal swim. This is the finale of the LTF series so this race will be a huge focus for me in the last part of the season.
Nov 10- Rev3 Florida
This will be my second time competing in the half in Sarasota. Last year the race was turned duathlon because of a hurricane coming through town. The swim is in the ocean and the water is choppy, salty, and clear. The bike course is a little different this year, but all I remember last year was WIND. If you are planning on doing this race then be prepared for a windy ride. Maybe leave the disc wheel at home? The run is a mixture of dirt/grass/road/and bike path. It is a 2-loop run around an alligator lake, through a park, and then a little along the water. Rev3 always puts on great events, so the atmosphere is second to none and the weather is beautiful at this time of year. Patellini’s is a great place to grab some pre race food right downtown on Main St.
